Matthew B. DouglasMatt Douglas is CEO and founder of Venture West Funding, Inc.  Mr. Douglas’ primary responsibilities include managing and building the firm’s key relationships with its extensive network of lenders as well as driving the strategic vision of the company.  Mr. Douglas is a hands-on leader and actively mentors the firm’s team of skilled loan professionals in two offices.     

Mr. Douglas has over 26 years of experience in real estate financing and throughout his career, he has developed long-term relationships with many lenders including banks, agency and conduit lenders, and life companies.  He has also developed multigenerational relationships with many of Southern California’s most active real estate investors and owners.  During his career, Mr. Douglas and his team have arranged over $3 billion of financing for multifamily, commercial, and residential property loans.  His expertise and solid reputation in real estate finance are the driving forces behind the firm’s success and longevity in this industry.

Mr. Douglas began his career at California Federal Bank where he managed high-end clients and originated commercial, industrial, and multi-family loans. He later moved to single-family construction lending and was promoted to Construction Loan Manager for Cal Fed, serving as the bank's top producer for four consecutive years.  

Mr. Douglas is a Licensed California Real Estate Broker and NMLS approved.  He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Arizona with a double major in finance and real estate.  He is happily married with 3 children.

Don SimkinsDon brings more than 28 years experience in real estate financing, advisory and portfolio management to the team.  After completing an internship with Cambridge Capital Group (FNMA/GSE, CMBA division of Columbia Savings), Don was hired full-time under the CEO to learn each major company function including servicing, REO management, secondary marketing, underwriting and origination.  Following a lengthy tenure with CCG, Don helped build several recognized commercial lending brokerages in Southern California until joining Venture West Funding in 1998.

Since then, Don has managed the Orange County office of VWF as Senior Vice President and Regional Manager.  His duties run full range from operations to originations.  Don has been a perennial top producer for the company.

During his career, Don has invested in numerous multifamily and commercial real estate ventures.  He currently oversees management and operations of those projects located in Orange, Los Angeles, Riverside and San Diego Counties.  Don’s experience makes him expertly positioned to advise on many facets of the income property business.  Advisory in the area of debt placement, acquisition analysis, development, management, reposition and disposition of almost any size transaction are what clients rely on from Don and his VWF team.

Don graduated from the school of business at California State University at Fullerton.  Shortly after, Don continued his education at UC Irvine’s program in Advanced Real Estate Finance.  Don holds a real estate license with the California BRE and is NMLS approved.  Don is a native of Southern California and is married with three children.

Jackie King FergusonJackie has been with Venture West Funding since April 2004. Jackie manages and oversees the day-to-day Finance/Accounting, Human Resources, Marketing, Information Technology, and Legal functions.  She is also responsible for other operational activities such as DRE and NMLS compliance.  Jackie gained her Finance/Accounting experience from several top Fortune 500 companies such as PepsiCo, Toyota, and Mattel, as well as Baskin-Robbins, Inc.  Just prior to joining Venture West Funding, she was a Director in KPMG LLP's Transaction Services practice where she assisted such clients as General Electric, Nestlé, Panasonic and TEAC in acquisitions, disposals, mergers, and joint ventures.   

Jackie earned her bachelor's degree from the University of Southern California with an emphasis in finance and her M.B.A. from the University of California, Los Angeles. Jackie is a licensed California Real Estate Broker and NMLS approved.

William HainBill has more than 25 years experience in commercial finance and real estate valuation analysis.  Bill recognized early in his career that the mortgage broker plays an important role for both the borrower and the lender.  He understands that developing and maintaining lender relationships is key to successfully closing transactions.

Bill was a senior multifamily appraiser with Home Savings of America for 14 years which gives him great insight into the operation and management of apartments.  His appraisal knowledge provides an added dimension to the strategic counsel he is able to offer his commercial business clients.

An investor in income producing properties himself, Bill’s first-hand knowledge enables him to provide his clients a superior level of counsel and insight that is rare among other mortgage brokers.

Bill is a licensed California Real Estate Salesperson and a Certified General Appraiser with the State of California.

Jean-Marc HerrouinJean-Marc Herrouin is a Senior Loan Officer with Venture West Funding. He (and his team) have arranged over $425 million of financing in over 270 transactions during his 12 years at Venture West Funding, including all types of permanent financing on commercial and residential properties.

Mr. Herrouin started his real estate career 23 years ago by using his financing degree and real estate license as a commercial real estate broker with Colliers International. He had a very successful career where he spent over 13 years representing both tenants and landlords in the marketing of real estate for both lease and sale.

Mr. Herrouin earned his bachelor’s degree in finance and marketing from the University of Southern California in 1988.

He is a supporter of The Tartikoff Foundation and a previous director, in which he organized fundraising events that generated more than $20 million for cancer research for the Revlon/UCLA Women's Cancer Research Program.

Bart BrehmBart specializes in apartment and single-family financing at Venture West Funding and has been originating loans for over 12 years. His success derives from his business integrity, which allows him to establish long-term relationships with his clients.

Prior to joining Venture West Funding, Bart served in the U.S. Armed Forces.  He earned his bachelor’s degree in business finance from California State University of Long Beach.  Bart is a licensed California Real Estate Salesperson and NMLS approved.

Loren TironeLoren moved from Detroit to Los Angeles in 2005 when she joined Venture West Funding.  She started as a loan coordinator and quickly worked her way to loan analyst, and ultimately loan originator.  Through working these various positions Loren learned a detailed approach to loan process from start to finish.  She believes this knowledge not only sets her apart, but allows for a much smoother loan process.  She prides herself on her value system and believes that the key to success in this industry is honest hard work and a deep sensitivity to client's needs.

Loren attributes her sharp edge and forthright business practice to her private education. She studied Business at Loyola University Chicago in 2001 and went on to graduate summa cum laude with her bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from the University of Detroit Mercy in 2005.  She was awarded a lifetime membership from Delta Epsilon Iota Academic Honor Society for academic excellence and strong leadership qualities. She was also honored by The National Society of Collegiate Scholars for outstanding scholarship, leadership, and service.  She is a licensed real estate professional and Founder and C.E.O. of United Food Movement, a non-profit organization.  When she’s not closing loans or furthering the mission of her non-profit, Loren enjoys donating her time to various charities throughout Los Angeles County.

Steven SmithSteven recently joined Venture West Funding in 2013 as a Junior Loan Analyst under Matt Douglas’s team. Prior to Venture West, Steven successfully completed an internship program with the Walt Disney Company and worked as a founder of his own commercial sports website. With a bachelor’s degree in business economics from the University of Arizona’s Eller College of Management, Steven is excited to apply his unique comprehension of economic strategy and theory to the real estate finance industry. Notably, his educational experience in game theory and information economics will serve as a key foundation for excelling and gaining advantages in understanding the commercial and multi-family lending market dynamics.

Joshua GalindoJoshua Galindo is a Commercial Loan Officer at Venture West Funding’s El Segundo office and joined the office in 2013. Joshua has funded over $700 million of multi-family, retail, office, single tenant, and residential properties. From this great volume of experience, he brings the knowledge of deal making, time management, and seasoned industry relationships to his clients. Joshua specializes in multi- family and commercial financing, sales, and valuation.

Joshua was with Marcus & Millichap Capital Corporation since 2008, where he worked as an associate for both the San Francisco and Long Beach offices. Prior to Marcus and Millichap, he worked for 13 years at Fremont Investment and Loan as an Account Executive.

Joshua holds a real estate license with the California BRE.

Sean FarrellSean Farrell joined Venture West Funding in early 2016, shortly after graduating from Georgia Southern University, where he earned a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Finance. Sean is currently a Junior Analyst, where he works closely with Senior Loan Officers in VWF’s Los Angeles office.

Prior to joining the Venture West Funding team, Sean worked as a Financial Analyst Intern for Resource Real Estate. Leveraging his quantitative acumen, he quickly learned how to analyze, underwrite and originate financing for Multi-Family, Commercial, Hospitality and Residential asset classes. Currently pursuing his real estate license with the California BRE, Sean is excited to continue developing his proficiency in real estate debt analysis with guidance from the experienced Venture West Funding team.

Additionally, before transferring to Georgia Southern University, he was recognized as a professional snowboarder. Holding multiple sponsorships, Sean competed on a national level as both an individual and collegiate athlete for UCSB. Sean looks forward to bringing the same competitive drive and scrupulous work ethic to the business industry.

Tyler SimkinsTyler recently joined Venture West Funding in 2016 shortly after graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in International Trade and Globalization.  Born and raised in South Orange County, he now works under Don Simkins and his team as a Junior Loan Analyst in the Orange County office. Prior to Venture West, he was also a member of the men’s Div1 soccer team that was ranked #1 in the Nation during his tenure at Cal. 

Tyler is very excited to apply his competitive drive and hardworking mindset to the real estate finance industry. Tyler worked periodically as a summer intern at the Orange County office of VWF after graduating and trained in property management of various types of income property.  Tyler’s interest in commercial property financing led his desire to enter the field as an analyst and production assistant to Don’s team.  Tyler is an avid golfer and is passionate about fitness.

Under Don, he has quickly learned how to analyze, underwrite, and originate financing for all different types of real estate ventures including Multi-Family, Commercial & Residential. He wishes to continue to advance his expertise in finance and real estate under such an experienced team.
